Can Snapdragon 835 Beat Apple A10 CPU?

Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 835 in collaboration with Samsung. This is the first Qualcomm’s chip based on 10nm FinFET technology. Decreasing the size of the chip doesn’t mean a less powerful chip. This size can have 30 percent more parts compared to 14-nm Chipsets, and it will also increase device’s performance by 27 percent.
27 percent boost in performance compared to its predecessor makes sense, but what can you expect? These days Chips’ performance is measured based on their benchmark score. So I will compare Qualcomm’s upcoming (Snapdragon 835) chip with Apple A10.
Let’s calculate where 27 percent increase in performance takes the devices.
Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL both feature Snapdragon 821, so I have got a screenshot with 10 benchmark instances (in case some people may argue that sometimes a device may score less). So let’s have a look what Snapdragon 821 is already doing with the Stock Android OS.
I will pick the best score of the Google Pixel devices powered by Snapdragon 821.
- Best Single-Core Score : 1801
- Best Multi-Core Score : 4176
Let’s increase the score by 27 percent so that we can get the expected score of Snapdragon 835 CPU.
- Single-Core : 1801 + 486.27 = Around 2287
- Multi-Core : 4176 + 1127.52 = Around 5304
So 2287 in Single-core and 5304 in Multi-core, that is what you can expect from Snapdragon 835 Chipset. Any smartphone with Snapdragon 835 is not likely to launch this year, but you can expect some devices to be launched in the first quarter of 2017.
I assume that 27 percent faster chip (as Qualcomm said) would not score 27 percent more because Qualcomm said earlier that Snapdragon 820 is 2 times faster compared to Snapdragon 810, but it never made 2 times more score. So the score what I have calculated for Snapdragon 835, it may not make that much score in real life.
Here are 10 instances of Geekbench benchmark score for the latest iPhone models that are powered by Apple A10 CPU.
Just like Snapdragon CPU, I will pick the best score of Apple A10 as well.
- Best Single-Core Score : 3515
- Best Multi-Core Score : 5586
Well, Apple A10 would still be the winner in 2017 if we compare it with Snapdragon 835. I am not sure how Samsung’s Exynos 9 would perform, but we would have another comparative view when we have some detail about Exynos 9 chip.

Thats if SD835 keep 4 core you dumb writter as this only show the improvement in architecture ( 10 nm versus 14 nm). With 8 cores you can expect another increase of easily 30-40% lets be nice and put 30% only.
2287 + 30% = 2973.1 single core.
5304 + 30% = 6895.2 multi core.
Thats would fit the earlier years trend.
Apple king of single core.
but loose in multicore.

I hope you think more core means faster chip. If it is so, you must be thinking SD 810 is faster than SD 820. Don’t be a dumb. When Qualcomm officially confirmed 27% improvement, why you are trying add another 3% yourself. Do some research before making such comment.

About the Multi-core performance : If Multicore is score is better, then Mediatek Helio X20 or X25 is best chip because no chipsets are even close to its benchmark score. However, you need to do some research as I said, and then come to a conclusion.

You think adding more core improves single-core performance? Well if i get one car and it maxes at 180kph and i get another one, will the first car suddenly be able to max at 250 kph?
