What makes 9.7-inch iPad Pro different from 12.9-inch model

Apple launched 12.9-inch iPad Pro last year, and now they have announced 9.7-inch iPad Pro. No one will understand what iPad Pro you are really talking about unless you mention the display size. We expected Apple to name the smaller model as iPad Pro mini, but this didn’t happen.
We have heard many good things about iPad Pro, like Apple A9x chip, 12-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera, Live Photos, Retina Flash, 4K Video Recording, Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil Support, and so on..
You must have thought for a while, WOW! I need to upgrade to get the amazing camera, but hold your horses. Along with good, there are down sides as well.
12.9-inch iPad Pro vs 9.7-inch iPad Pro
Display
You already know one has larger 12.9-inch display with 2732 x 2048 pixels resolution, and the other with 9.7-inch display and 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution. According to display size and resolution ratio one is as good as other, pixel density for both the iPads are 264 PPI (Pixel Per Inch). However, 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes with Wide Color and True Tone Display, so the display quality should be better than larger iPad Pro.
CPU and RAM
12.9-inch and 9.7-inch, both the iPad Pro features Apple A9 CPU and M9 Coprocessor, but the CPU in 9.7-inch model is clocked at 2.16 GHz, and in 12.9-inch it is clocked at 2.24 GHz. The different is not big, though.
9.7-inch comes with 2GB RAM compared to 4GB RAM in 12.9-inch model. Like, 12.9-inch iPad Pro the new iPad also lacks L2 cache, and it comes with same 3MB L3 Cache.
Along with little slower CPU, 2GB Less RAM, 9.7-inch iPad Pro is also slower in terms of Graphic Performance compared to 12.9-inch model, but 4.3 times faster than Apple A7 Chip
Because of slightly lower clock speed and RAM, 9.7-inch iPad Pro also score less in GeekBench Benchmark 3 Test. 12.9-inch iPad Pro average GeekBench 3 score is; 3224 (single-core), and 5466 (multi-core). However, 3022 as single-core and 5107 as multi-core score shows a very powerful performance.
Camera
9.7-inch iPad Pro features a 12-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera, compared to 1.2-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front found in 12.9-inch iPad Pro. 9.7-inch iPad Pro features almost the same specs iPhone 6s does, and the new iPad also supports Retina Flash, Live Photos and 4K Video Recording that 12.9-inch model lacks.. 9.7-inch iPad Pro has really received a major upgrade in terms of camera.

Conclusion
If you don’t want an iPad in the size of a MacBook, you should go for 9.7-inch iPad Pro. If you want a powerful camera in iPad, 9.7-inch iPad Pro is the only solution so far. If you don’t care much about iPad camera and larger size, 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the best iPad in terms of performance.
