Twitter has presented its financial results for the first quarter of 2014, despite touching 255 million active users, there is no good news for the bluebird. The popularity of this social network is decreasing. To be more specific, the Twitter activity (ie, activity of the users) has fallen down by 10% compared to the same period last year.
There are even studies showing that nearly half of the users of Twitter have never posted a tweet (a short message). The explanation to this problem seems to lie in the complexity of using this social network which is facing novice users of the network, which is already trying to solve at breakneck speed with developments such as the redesign of user profiles. The fact that this new design has a more than reasonable to social network like Facebook.
If we look at the economic data, we see that the profits of Twitter has grown by 119% compared to the same period last year (resulting in a total of $250 million). Spectacular! Right? The problem is that the losses have amounted to the $132 million, representing an increase of 390% loss compared to the same period last year.
Looking at these data, it is easy to think that the future of social networking seems to be supported by a bubble that sooner or later, eventually sweeping away platforms. Twitter needs to recycle once and for all the sources of income that allows to breathe both their makers and their investors, else there is no impediment that we end up encountering a new social network that has managed to find the perfect place to make profit with this business method.
What is clear is that we are witnessing a beautiful digital struggle in which different software giant appeared virtually out of nowhere trying to make a profitable business that does not make it easy to its creators.
