Xiaomi fans are eagerly waiting for Mi 5, but they need to wait more than a month for its official announcement. Xiaomi Mi 5 was rumored to feature Finger Print Sensor based on Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic technology, but this would not happen. Xiaomi Mi 5 may follow Redmi Note 3, and would feature Finger Print Sensor on the back.
Xiaomi Mi 5 has been spotted on Antutu 6.0, and MyDriver shared the image. It scored 101339, that is much better compared to Galaxy S6 and other existing high-end smartphones, but it is still much lower compared to Apple A9 benchmark that scored 123567 in Antutu 6.0 benchmark test. So it seems to be true that high frequency version of Snapdragon 820 will be exclusively for Galaxy S7.
As far as release date is concerned, we had mentioned earlier that it depends on Snapdragon 820 availability. However, Qualcomm is ready with its high-end chipset. Qualcomm will hold an event on 11 December, and will reveal how capable Snapdragon 820 is. They will also show a sample device powered by Snapdragon 820 CPU. Qualcomm has posted a teaser image on their official Weibo page that you can see below.
A reliable Chinese leakster, Leaksfly tipped Xiaomi Mi 5 release date to be 21 January. Chinese company would hold an event, and introduce Mi 5. Along with Xiaomi Mi 5, we also expect Mi Note 2 in this event.
Along with Snapdragon 820 and Finger Print Sensor, Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to feature a 5 or 5.2 inches 2K display, 3GB / 4GB RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS, 8-megapixel front shooter etc.. Xiaomi Mi 5 benchmark was leaked earlier via Geekbench 3 when it showed up with 3GB RAM. However, we may see 2 models of Mi 5; one with 3GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB ROM, and another with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. It will run MIUI OS based on Android Marshmallow 6.0.
