Update

Xiaomi’s upcoming high-end flagship Mi 5 is talk of the town. There is a new leak / rumor now and then. Today, we are going to include all recent as well as new leaks. Xiaomi Mi 5 should have been released so far according to normal schedule of launching Mi series devices, but Xiaomi delayed it due to unavailability of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset. Xiaomi didn’t like to compromise and settling in something else.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Leaked Images, Technical Specifications and Design
Some images of Xiaomi Mi 5 was leaked earlier, but that didn’t have front physical button for Finger Print Sensor. However, some images have been leaked now that we spotted on MyDriver. The recent leaked images clarifies a couple of things that could be true.

According to leaked images, Xiaomi Mi 5 would still feature a 5-inch display, and expected resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. Earlier, Mi 5 was rumored to feature a 5.2 inches 2K display, but it seems Mi 5 will follow its predecessor in terms of display size and resolution. Xiaomi wants to give a reason to users who wants to buy its high-end Mi Note series devices, and this make sense. That’s why Mi Note Pro was launched with 5.7 inches 2K display. Taking 5-inch display into consideration, 1080 pixels sounds fair enough, and it will also help to reduce power consumption. Xiaomi Mi Note 2 may arrive with 5.7 inches 2K display, Snapdragon 820 Chip, 4GB RAM and Finger Print Sensor. So the resolution and the size would give users a reason to buy upcoming Mi Note 2.
As far as Finger Print Scanner is concerned, we expected Xiaomi to locate the sensor on the back like Redmi Note 3, but Xiaomi is wise enough. They know that most of the users hate Finger Print Sensor on the back, and the leaked image of Mi 5 showed up with front Finger Print Scanner like many other Android Smartphones.
In terms of design, Xiaomi Mi 5 may have something different. The leaked images show the front panel and sides only, but the back is still not visible. However, we expect Xiaomi Mi 5 to arrive in full metal body, and non-removable battery of course. The bezel looks very thing that suggests Mi 5 to have edge-to-edge display, but not curved. Mi 5 may also be thinner compared to Mi 4.
As far as other tech specs are concerned, we expect Xiaomi Mi 5 to arrive in two variant; 3GB RAM with 16/32 GB ROM and 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM. Xiaomi Mi 5 Benchmark appeared on Geekbench 3 shows it with 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 820 CPU, and Android 6.0 OS. OS and CPU can be taken for granted, but there could be changes in RAM or ROM, but don’t expect MicroSD card slot. It is expected to feature 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS and 8-megapixel front camera. Xiaomi missed Gorilla Glass or any other protection in Mi 4, and this time we expect Mi 5 display to be protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Release Date
Xiaomi Mi 5 released date is something that many users are curious to know. According to recent leak, Xiaomi is expected to hold an event on 21 January, 2016, and Mi 5 would be announced in this event.
Qualcomm recently showed a Sample model in the event that was powered by Snapdragon 820, and we have also seen Snapdragon 820 benchmark (tested on the sample model). There are over 70 models that would feature this CPU. Qualcomm seems to be ready now, and we expect Mi 5 to hit stores by the end of January 2016 or early February.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Pricing
There are many leaks that suggests Xiaomi Mi 5 to be priced at 1,999 Chinese Yuan (around $310), MyDriver thinks the same as well. Let’s guess, based on previous models;
Xiaomi Mi Note Pro with Snapdragon 810 chipset, 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM : 2,999 Chinese Yuan (around $465)
Xiaomi Mi 4c with Snapdragon 808, 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM: 1,499 Chinese Yuan (around $232)
None of them features Finger Print Scanner
Xiaomi Mi 5……………… ?
We expect Xiaomi Mi 5 to cost around 2199 Chinese Yuan (around $341) for the starter model, and 64GB version is expected to be priced at around 2499 Chinese Yuan (around $387). The price should not exceed $400, because Xiaomi is well known to keep the price as less as they can. Mi 5 could be the only Smartphone with Snapdragon 820 that would cost under $400.
