Update : Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 has gone official.
Xiaomi Mi Pad was the company’s first tablet that has done a pretty good job. Now Xiaomi is getting ready ready to launch the second generation of tablet that would replace the first generation, but we doubt it, because Mi Pad 2 benchmark score is not good.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is expected to arrive by the end of 2015, or may be in early 2016. There has been rumor that Xiaomi would launch Mi Pad 2 with Android as well as Windows OS or a single tab would have dual-boot option. Some leaked images of Mi Pad 2 also showed up earlier that makes it less attractive compared to Mi Pad first generation model.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Benchmark (Geekbench 3) and tech specs
Mi Pad 2 benchmark score doesn’t show any improvement compared to its predecessor, rather it has decreased. Mi Pad 2 scored 994 in single-core performance and 3274 in multi-core performance on Geekbench 3.
Mi Pad 2 benchmark detail also shows its technical specifications; 2GB RAM, Quad-core 2.24 GHz Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor, and it is running Android Lollipop 5.1 OS. Other tech specs are expected to be as 7.9 inches display with 2,048 x 1,536 pixels resolution, 16GB/64GB internal storage with expandable option via MicroSD card, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 vs Mi Pad
The leaked specs suggest that Mi Pad 2 would not have so many changes in terms of specs except the chipset. This is the first time Xiaomi is going in the wrong direction if the leaked detail is correct. Mi Pad with Quad-core 2.2 GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 chip seems to be a better chip in terms of performance, this is what Mi Pad and Mi Pad 2 benchmark score suggests.
Mi Pad 2 benchmark score has gone lower in single as well as multi-core performance compared to Mi Pad, and 2nd generation tablet from Xiaomi would not be better in graphic performance as well (if the leaked detail is true). So there is no point users would like to upgrade their existing model. Mi Pad first generation would still be a better pick even after the launch of Mi Pad 2.
